After an apprenticeship in the wholesale grocery sector, Alfons Brüggen (born in 1955) began his professional career at Hochwald Nahrungsmittelwerke GmbH in Hunsrück, in the Rhineland Palatinate region of Germany. During his first year, he undertook studies in business administration alongside his work. In 1983, he moved to the meat and sausage producer, Zimbo, where, after different stages, he eventually took responsibility for the areas of Production and Sales as the General Manager.

Over the course of his 25 years at Zimbo, Alfons Brüggen built the Zimbo brand into one of the leading producers of meat and sausage products in Europe and stepped in as a co-partner. After the company was taken over by listed company Bell AG in 2008, Alfons Brüggen retired from the operational activities of the Zimbo Group in order to use his rich wealth of experience and full commitment to dedicate himself to the development of his investment company.

Today, Brüggen Beteiligungs-GmbH is involved in different sectors, from agriculture and food to IT. Yet its focus on agricultural and food economics clearly reflects Alfons’ ardent enthusiasm for the food sector which has driven and accompanied this father of six children throughout his professional life.
